This is a poem I wrote my freshman year of college in an English class.

"Life Resembles Hacky Sack"

It flies and falls

Gets dropped and saved

The feeling one gets is

Constantly craved.

You slide and stretch

And kick and jump

Only to juggle a

Small falling lump.

Alone is tough

And lacks support

A team works better to

Handle this sport.

We whine and fight

And piss and moan

But in the end we are

Never alone.

The world (universe) is a hologram and I am its projector.

Life is an experiment and I am a scientist.

Those are my two contributions! I love this idea, creating our own, personal metaphors for life and the world we live in.

~Cat

      Dear Rex,

In your realization about reality and our perception you have already realized and accept one of the keys to growing a happy healthy eternal garden for yourself. Congratulations my friend...you've already done most of the hard work and it is all icing on the cake from here!

As for death...according to Dr. Deepak Chopra, who I respect highly, we are all dying with each moment we live. He says that life is actually the process of dying. In addition to that he reminds us that millions if not billions of our body's cells die every single day and our entire body is re-created anew many times within our lifetime. So concurrently we die many times physically throughout our lifetime. He also says that when we die it is not the end for us. I believe what he says is true...at least for me for my reality from my perspective.

The other day at work I commented to someone that I wish it was already Friday and he said to me, "Why Cheryl, you're wishing your life away!" To that I responded, "Oh I'm not worried...I have another life coming after this one..."

Blessings,
Cheryl

I have a few metaphors on life, but mostly they're unformed.

I think we create our reality. Perception is reality, so whatever someone thinks is true is true.

You can live your life by a set of rules, or throw the book away and live for the moment, but neither one is right or wrong, and both have their good and bad points.

My metaphor for life is death. It's essentially a clock ticking. To live is to die essentially. When my father died, I mourned his loss, but I also realized that a part of me died with him, and parts of me die all the time.

Life is like a garden though, and although I guess I am morbidly obsessed with death and its prevalence, I do believe life to be like a nursery. I believe in birth and growth, and even re-creation. I've changed my personal outlook on life so much lately. I know I am not the same person I was a year ago.

In the garden that is your life, you take out the weeds as you go along. You can be lazy and let them take over without much effort. I think that is an amazing metaphor. Laziness can make your life a living hell; left untamed, the 'weeds' really cloud everything, and choke what is important.

Sometimes weeds look beautiful, but they're essentially weeds.

You have to plant new things all the time, and harvest things when they are ripe. Too soon a harvest they'll be immature and bitter. The beauty about old things, like grapes, is that even when they go bad, they make the best wine. There is such a thing as letting go of the old though. You wouldn't hold on to something dead in the ground.

You'd make sure it had plenty of water and air, and sunshine. You can't hurry nature, so why stress about things? You sow what you reap, so if you want to reap a lot - sow a lot. If you've done nothing all summer - then guess what? You get nothing in the Winter!

Sometimes bad things happen, like storms, and a life time of work can go to ruin in seconds. This isn't always chance. There are fools that rush in where angels fear to tread, but it can happen to us all, and it makes us better or bitter.

When this happens, you have two choices. You can lie in your little garden and cry, or you can salvage what you can and make the most of any given situation. Look at it as a chance to start anew. I've had to start over more than once.

I've even had a layout for a perfect garden, only to find out that it wasn't a map for me at all. It was a map for Detroit and I'm in a whole other State!

So life is like a garden you need to take care of; to me at least. Sometimes bad things happen for no reason, and sometimes, everything is perfect. You can't control the weather, but you can control the attitude.

The power of thought and prayer are very big. 'Good vibes' sent out from our bodies, and positive people around us can make real magic in our lives happen.

A good song can make me smile, or cry. Sometimes it's hard to let go of things, and you think you have, but a song will bring a memory back in colour, sound and smell. That is why you have to build a strong mind to deal with it.

      Hi Patti,

I'd prefer to view it as creating my garden rather than tending it. Still either way we see it at least we are aware that the garden needs to be created or tended. We are light years ahead of some folks. Good on us!

Blessings,
Cheryl

With comments like that Patti, it would certainly seem that the garden was one of all seasons; in full blossom both day and night.

Nicely said, my friend.

You took the words right out of my mouth Deb.

I am living proof that perspective is EVERYTHING!

About six or seven years ago I was secretly planning to leave my husband as soon as I felt our son was on his own enough to make the time right to leave. I constantly complained to my girlfriends about all of the things I felt was lacking in my marraige and all of the things my husband was or wasn't doing that led me to believe our relationship was going nowhere and never would. I say I was secretly planning to leave because on the outside I was the same ol' wife I'd always been acting a part I really didn't feel inside. At some point, and I really couldn't say what made me change, I decided to stop focusing on the negative and to begin focusing on the good. Trust me before I made this decision if you'd asked me I wouldn't have been able to name a single good thing about my husband or our relationship because all I ever focused on what what I thought was missing in the relationship. So I changed my perspective and slowly and surely things started to change for me. It really wasn't that long before he started acting differently or so I thought he was but I know know that I had simply changed how I perceived him and therefore who I expected him to be and how I expected him to act. I GOT EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED! 100% I can honestly tell you today that our relationship is fantastic on all fronts. Sure he still does things that can be aggravating but they are so small and insignificant and there is so many positive aspects to him and our relationship that I don't hardly notice them and when I do it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. I've never been happier and to think that if I hadn't decided to shift my perception of him and our relationship I might be alone and single today looking for something in other men that he had all along but I never allowed myself to see.

Blessings,
Cheryl

Hum, Domus - it isn't a wonder really. The mood says so much -

Life's a bitch, and then you marry one... (too many to name)

Just my humble advice, which you didn't ask for, aren't obligated to try and probably don't believe it would do any good anyway but you could try

"Life is beautiful, and then she made it more beautiful"

and see what that gets you. Course, maybe you like it the other way and can self-fulfill your beliefs. Hope this is a case of opposites attracting and not like attracts like for the work would be much harder to accomplish if that is the case.

I'm not being sarcastic at all (just don't want you to misread my mood). You have my sincere sympathy and compassion really, unless of course you were just trying to be funny and yet, the mood says so much.

I once heard a story about a man who was always saying "I'd give my right arm, if" such and such - you fill in the blank. You may have already arrived at the eventual outcome.

If I ever see a drunken pope, I will look at who is president.

No, You know the thing is with women in Europe, and especially in the netherlands, do not become happy of cars, shoes, a house, a vacation or anything (they will, but only for a short while). It is very easy to give actually. But Ironically most people see it as impossible. But it keeps her around until the end of time.

And of people that only want to see downsides...

So,
If you enjoy death, downsides and taxes, you are guaranteed to lead a happy life....

The only things you can be sure of in life are death and taxes.

      Alex y todus,

Films are my thing so I guess life is like a film production, with the self being the actor, director and producer, except sometimes the director and producer can change to someone you know or even a stranger depending on who is giving you advice, and it could also come from another film ;) The locations are always changing, the co-stars are people we meet and the weather is the lighting etc The credits represent everybody involved in our life and we only get to seem them when we depart from the material and are born to the spiritual. Then we find out that life was actually a classroom.

I quite like Terminator 2's, "There's no fate but what we make" but Einsetin said it best when he said, "There are only two ways to live your life. One is though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle"

Namaste,

D

The metaphor that came to me as I read this thread is the so-called "evil" that was represented by the StayPuff man in the Ghostbusters movie. The evil that manifested was the very thoughts of the individual who had the most fear. In the absense of fear or other lower tier dysfunction there does not tend to be much else to observe. Similar to a dog that does not notice anything unless it moves or smells, people do not tend to notice anything that is not dramatic or over-emphasized. The human world tends to be defined by that which is wrong, bad, or otherwise dysfunctional. Divinity tends to be invisible. Consciously-aware people tend to side-step or avoid dysfunctional people unless of course the consciously-aware people choose to teach or assist in the evolution or transcendence of someone they notice. It is for this reason that the concept of Heaven is lost on most people as they have no relationship to or experience of divine memes.

Perhaps a definition of enlightenment may be, "When dysfunction reaches zero."
