What Is Enlightenment?

This Group is for people who wish to engage in meaningful spiritual inquiry about the topic of enlightenment. What is enlightenment? What does it mean to be enlightened, and what comes next? What has your experience been with developing your own awareness, with those who claim to be enlightened, or those that promise enlightenment?

We welcome all...(more)

uh...what works yo?

~blessings~

a quick question for ya, if you will?

when you see the “light”, what helps you to do just that?

and if I may, I would like to say that what helps is loving you, loving me, loving everyone, the earth, the mosquito, the ladybug, the ones with the guns, the ones screamin at the ones with the guns…yeah, everyone, everywhere, everywhen…

~loving you~

turning it off, dialing it back rather, so I could do stuff like make money to pay taxes and render unto ceasar and pay for this neato computer, take care of the family and stuff. And occasionally think about it all so as to better understand, tho that's arguably a bit selfish.

I agree with Bill,
A state of pure happiness and no worries whatsoever is very, very impracticable in normal day life. And even if you understand all emotions, the persons that love you, and live close to you, will expect emotions back. They will expect anger back, happiness back. And even though you seem perfectly tranquil, it might break the predictability of your relationship. And trust me, women like something (socially) predictable in their lives.

perhaps…

and perhaps love beyond limit provides all “necessary” things and the emotional response of limitless love is more important than redirected anger.

why limit happiness and love only to accept the world as it seems to exist?

what is the definition of “practical” that we are using in this conversation.

~love to you~

Michael >>> and perhaps love beyond limit provides all “necessary” things

Could be - it's certainly worth a shot.

What's the worst that could happen? Nothing that terrible, certainly.

As for “practical' and definitions - well I always think it's excellent when somebody says “hey, how are we defining that here?”.

For me, “practical” is all about biology and biological drives and biological imperatives, especially from the other humans.

Drinking, eating, elimination, shelter, physical stuff, and breeding - and the consequences of the same.

“biological imperatives”, that is an interesting term. Could the basic biological imperative be seen as “survival”?

If so, must it include survival of the individual, the family, the group, the species and the planet?

In my opinion, I say “yes” to both questions.

And from that assumption, this contemplative injunction comes to mind, “what is absolute necessity in the requirements of survival?” Meaning, if the biological mechanism is to survive, what is absolutely necessary for its survival?

In my opinion, I don't really know. I may think food and water is necessary based on empirical experimental data that says so. However, there are some who have said to sustain the body entirely from spirit without aid of food, etc.

I guess that is a question we must come to realize from one's own experience.

yep, stuff like that is said, but it's not like one sees a lot of it.

In my experiences, I felt that I found a voluntary death switch - and contemplating using it. Obviously I haven't yet.

But I didn't find a breatharian switch. or a “live off the 'god' energy” switch.

Did you?

(*switch” is a metaphor - it was more like a sequence of codes. But that's a metaphor too.)

yep, 'biological imperatives' are basically the genetic instruction to survive and reproduce, and the accommodations to the group that the individual “feels” it has to make to accomplish that.

As for 'absolute necessity', I think pretty much everybody going thru these experiences realizes that one good strategy is to be minimalist. To be happy with the smallest possible capitulation to the biological imperatives.

But living on nettle soup in a cave is a tough gig.

haven't found that switch yet, or maybe I have, just haven't activated it to fully recognize it…who knows?

I agree with the minimalist strategy…of course, I'm always open for something more profound…I guess we'll see what happens with that
