The role money plays in personal and spiritual well-being

Suz [no longer around] said Jun 29, 2007, 12:26 PM:

As author of the book, The Quality Life Plan I have studied the relationship between personal and spiritual well-being and money.  Money can have both positive and negative impacts on the quality of one's life.  I'd enjoy being part of such a conversation.  Susan

Interesting.

It seems to me that it’s not really the money itself, but the freedom from worry having it enables one to have, as well as the improvement in quality of life and ability to help others, that makes it so important.

If we lived in communities that used a barter system no one would need money at all, though we’d all have to find our own currency and pull our own weight.

Some of the most miserable-seeming people I’ve ever met have had scads of money and some of the happiest, very little.

Yes, little dove, ask away. I m trying to move the discussion threads to their appropriate new discussion boards, very new at this. So for now, it is pretty much fair game.

Euphoria, I have been told many times that money as a system is superior to the bartering one. A quantum leap forward. Do you think that is so? Ever since I was a child, however, I felt deep in my heart, that money represented division and separation, which isnt really all that authentic, but was/is necessary in our collective evolution into what I could already feel we were, deep down inside: Collective Intelligence. Saint Paul wrote it in a religious context; that we are all limbs of Christ. I take that to mean, in a post-metaphysical context, to be that we are really all a collective intelligence, a multiple oneness. Both the notion of private ownership, division and separation would be entirely arbitrary, even absurd.

Until we get there as a whole, we dont get there. We still have money and what it means in our lives. Let us get there soon.

well, my question is this,   I am having a problem  that I dont know how to deal with  which involve this money issue here at home…   doing the spiritual work that I do , I have a real  issue with charging people for doing it . I have always been taught that you do not charge for the spirit work .. but then when I joined Zaadz I known many who do charge  for their spiritual work . they say it is an exchang e of energy.. I am confused…  it seems to go against my grain to charge for such a service yet my husband  has insisted i begin to this.He says we need the extra income  to help us because of my head injuries.  can you please tell me your opinion on this , I know that ultimately  I must follow my  own heart but can you tell me Please what is the right to do when dealing with money  and spiritual matters ?   Thank you so much and  Blessings  to you  …..

LITTLE DOVE

For what it is worth (probably alot! ;P) this is my opinion:

You obtained the idea that 'spirit work' is unpaid work from much older religious places didnt you? It is an old belief. Not to denigrate the ones that honestly believe that Life will pay them directly for the work they do, very often you find that the institutions that promulgate this belief are themselves wealthy by way of donations. Now unless your clientele are extremely generous and selfless and appreciative of your work, and your own form of propaganda powerful in its persuasiveness….

To me, everyone has a right to be paid. You should decide for yourself. Not demanding payment should lead one to great wealth as it did the Church, however :)

I'm on the fence about this one. In the past I've been well-paid for my day job and I've decided to donate my 'spiritual' talents (mostly astrology/Tarot work) with the stipulation that the folks with whom I've worked will donate something of value to others in need. I'm actively developing some new astrology and Tarot products, though, and I do want to sell these as products - and I've done lots of thinking about how I want to promote spiiritual work for material gain. I'm still rethinking how I feel about charging money for spiritual work, and how I could set a fair price for my work.

Greetngs tom! We should email each other privately in that case, seeing as you are thinking of starting a product line and I m seeking someone in that position also. :)

I can tell that we have here really two truly sincere healers and workers of the divine. I dont doubt you both for one second. For I have seen and witnessed many who 'walk the path' and their path seems to be going straight to the bank.

Money is division, yet money when fluidly moving, can also act as the medium to wash away that division. Amazing. I believe we all should be all as 'well off' as we like to be, and I believe 6 billion persons should be as well off as any. Altogether, that might mean no longer using money as divisive and separative, but as a medium of healing and love.

Euphoria

I believe that the role money plays in society is a very deep topic.  That why I wrote my book, The Quality Life Plan http://www.AlternativeFinancialNow.com because we have not been taught the whole story about money, how that has hurt us and the strategies to use once the whole story is understood.

Money as we know it today is more than just a medium of exchange, it has become the symbol of power in the world.  Thet's where all the crazy-making is in the world in terms of who gets to dominate and control (most anything).

Alternative currency systems are now coming back into vogue as people want to empower themselves and their communities outside of the dominent power structure.  Currently, I am part of such a system in the Northwest called Fourth Corner Exchange http://www.fourthcornerexchange.com  Interest is high and requests are coming in from around the world to learn more.  Over 500 members exist in this area and now new chapters around the US and world are being developed as people step forward to do so.

Such alternative systems allow individuals and families to access resources that they otherwise could not afford.  If you go to the site, you can see all the activity that is happening under OFFERS and WANTED.

I believe that the time has come for the people to empower themselves via knowledge and action to have money work for them to increase the quality of life.  Since most of everyone's education about money has come from the corporate financial industry, their recommendations are primarily concerned with profit motive, not OUR best interest.

Suz, I took a look at your second posted link. Sounds good, looks overly localized and not relevant for me who lives so far away. Any other suggestions?

Visit http://timebanks.org to learn more about the time dollar exchange system. It is fairly new, begun in US and now in UK. II could not find an international link, but if you contact the Time Dollar people they may know of an organization in Singapore, or could give you resources for starting one.

Not sure what you mean by not relevant to me as it is posssible to start a chapter in your area if you like since it is managed in cyberspace.  Local chapters use the same system - just for their area. More details if you want them.  :-)

I had written a reply yesterday. Wiped out!

Interesting…..

Anyway…I looked at the TimeBank site that Clara posted. The concept and execution looks very well grounded.

And suz, I meant not relevant, as the site did mention Pacific Northwest, and how I had to attend a meeting there if I intended to join. Please post or send along any info you think would help in the setting up of a local chapter. I wont know who I know that would be interested (and frankly, not suspicious!), but let me see what could happen…

Thank you Suz! How interesting… I feel bad that people don’t feel they deserve money, the corporate world has such a tight hold on us with this view that we have. And the fear attached to losing it. I had a few bad spots while doing our business that would be so emotionally nerve wracking that it left a constant pain in my chest because I was always scared of not having enough for bills. It’s insane for us to have this overwhelm us so much. Last night on Nightline there was a show about how credit card companies are selling off their bills to collection agencies for pennies on the dollar - a million dollar debt is sold for $30,000. Yikes! They taped these creeps threatening people - it’s just profit for them. The credit cards have already written their bills off.

Yes, a very deep topic indeed, I’ve just been able to understand my own view on it. It’s just energy exchange, and if you can have a good “attitude” towards it instead of letting it have power over you, it will start to flow to you. I always believed that the truth of life is always simple. The incompetance of the corporate world is what leads to corruption. They all hide from accountability. I daily remind myself to look at it simply. Be clear. It will all make sense eventually…

Peace and abundance to all,
Terri
