  Harlan : roots!

brilliance of breath

Harlan said Jan 15, 2007, 2:49 PM:

Hello, I would really like to share about breathing.

I hear that cancer cells strive on unoxygenated cells.

Breathing seems to regulate my muscles- my endurance- my thoughts- my patience- my-power… It GIVES me power.
( im not sure how to describe it- for its super subjective) But when my muscles are being challenged I seem to breath through so many different chapters. My breathing reveals a dense-brilliant story about me.
When my imagination is focused on my breath I see my muscles fibers- I notice fibers inefficiently competing- I notice cooperation.  When I focus on my breath I flow.

I see my breath traveling-I visualize my muscles cooperating- my body responds more efficiently to the environment.   Flowing-like water…..

So I ask, What has your breath taught you? Throughout you practice, how has your breathing helped you?

trying to flow,
harlan

hi hi,

come on!   breathing is so DAMN  important!  comment about it  and help us learn!!

I read somewhere that with our 'normal' way of living, we only use about one tenth of our total lung capacity. This is sufficient to survive, but not sufficient for a high vitality level, long life and high resistance to disease.

The ancient yogis knew the importance of correct breathing  increases health and life span.

Fact: Animals which breathe slowly live the longest; like the elephant.

Modem science agrees with the ancient yogis on the subject  that fast, shallow breathing can cause sleep disorders, anxiety,  muscle cramps, chest pain and heart palpitations

Scientists have also found that a lot of people who believe they have heart disease are really suffering from improper breathing.

– It was discovered  that the basis of energy production in the body is from a chemical called Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). Lack of ATP results in lowered vitality, disease and premature ageing.  oxygen is the MOST VITAL component for the production of ATP. In fact, most of our energy requirements come not from food but from the air we breathe!
