YES! I love pilates. I've been dancing all my life, and a couple years ago, we started doing some pilates to begin our warm-up. Ever since that first day we did pilates, I've been obsessed with it. I am so into it. I have a book on it that really helps me with everything as well. I love pilates!!

With work seeming to get in the way of my sport so much, I'm trying to find some holiday destinations that will let me do some structured training - ideally with some like-minded individuals who could spur me on to greater things.

I don't just want a hotel with a spa and gym; and I don't want somewhere that focusses on watersports, as swimming is not my thing at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions for venues?

Regards,

Peter

hey Jen, sounds like you did have a great 2007 year of athletic movement! The two marathons are impressive ... I have similar running goals for 2008 - a half and hopefully one marathon. Last years was less about running and more about upper body with sea kayaking and a bit less running than usual.

This winter I hope to get in more snowshoeing, snowboarding and XC skiing.

namaste
tom

      Welcome, Dan!

Great to hear that you're taking on a hundred miler this year! Would love to hear how your training is going.

Also, that is so very impressive/cool that you've completed four Ironmans! Have yet to set the date, but I intend to complete an Ironman. How long before your first one did you begin training?

Anyway, great to see you on here. A happy, healthy thriving 2008 to you and yours!

With love,

Jen

I recently came across Hemp Protein Powder at my local health food store. I drink a protein shake in the morning because I have to get up at 4:00 a.m so that I can workout for 90 to 120 minutes and be at work on time. I can just gulp the drink down and go. The hemp protein powder added to 12 ounces of soy milk and a couple scoops of vanilla yogurt is just the trick. The Hemp protein has an excellent amino acid profile and is high in Omega 3 fatty acids and high in fiber. It is processsed raw for all you raw foodies. I highly recommend!!

      Hiya, Zaadzthletes!

So excited to read about everyone's experiences in 2007!

Personally, 2007 was a great year for me. I ran a bunch of races, including two marathons. I also took on the role of "coach" by working as a pace leader for two local marathons. What a blast! Got to meet fantastic runners, event planners, and really push myself to the next level while being awed by the way my fellow runners (many first-timers) stepped up to the daily challenge of crosstraining and a rigorous run.

In 2008? Time to fulfil my decade-long vision of creating a race! Also, will set a PR for the marathon and the half. Finally, I want to take up climbing - had a brief taste last year and loved it!

OK, would love to know how everyone's doing. Let's get our goals down in writing!

In the spirit of power, courage and fun,

- Jen

this is a little late, but it's a subject close to my heart.

my suggestion is to exercise for fun, not training.

listen to your body before it forces the issue with injury.

and now that you have an injury, use that as an opportunity to study how your body heals and rejuvenates itself. seek various other healing modalities, reiki, acupuncture, acupressure, ayurveda, nutrition, whatever the universe brings to you.

hope that helps somebody,

after ~10 months on zaadz. I used to do many 'athletic things' such as racing on bike, canoe and foot. Anymore I seek activities over the race or the competition. The challenge is as much with your mind or with nature ... not so much with other individuals.

So, now I take on the sea in a home-built 'skin-on-frame' kayak or baidarka.

I also enjoy long mountain dayhikes (10 to 20 miles), backpacking, bicycle commuting, running, trail-running and 'hashing'. Fly fishing remote mountain streams where a long hike or backpack in is required is also a blast. Oh yea, and then there is snowshoeing and snowboarding and dancing and pickup basketball and ....

So that's my version of 'Zaazthleticism'.

tom
