...the violence was purposeful...

...and very saddening...

...it added to the spirit of the story line...

...for a small lead-in example...

...Jake is in his Avatar form and gets separated from the science group the first day... he is fighting for his life with the animals, trying to survive the night...

...an indigenous woman comes to his rescue and kills a dog-like creature... as they are walking away he asks why she saved him, killing the animal... with tears in her eyes she tells him that the animal did not need to die, that it was his fault... to understand why would require watching the movie....

...I don't want to give too much away...

...Humans are a violent race... but we have the mixture of many races within us... it is important to look at ourselves closely in the mirror and understand fully who we are... right now we are "Babies" (to quote the movie) and the Universe is watching to see how we grow up... and when (if) we do, what will our role be at that time...

Thanks for your take on it, Will. A lot of my friends are seeing it. One said there was military-type violence but no blood and guts. I am sooo sensitive to violence. What would you say about that aspect of it?

...it was my B-day wish to go see Avatar on opening day...

...Jake Sulley is volunteered to fill in for his brother after his death... he is taken to a planet where they have a mining operation... a group of scientists is also doing research on the plant and animal life there... oh, yeah... Jake is an ex-marine that is paraplegic...

...Avatars are a creation using DNA from humans and indigenous people... they activate while the human is in a dream state... Jake was picked because his DNA matches that of his deceased brother...

...did I mention that the film is in 3-D ?... and not the cheapie cardboard foldy-throwaway kind...

...last night I saw Sigourney Weaver on Jon Stewart talk about the movie... she talked of how they had cameras mounted to their heads shooting their facial features that were then digitized... she stated that this film would revolutionize film making... this I truly believe !...

...it has also been said that this is the most expensive movie ever made... production costs were over $500 million...

...this is all I am going to say... other than this is a must see movie...

...It was on our que and came in the mail... I had no idea what it was about, just another Friday night to watch a movie at home with the family... I am not going to tell you what it was about so that you might get the same impression that came over me...

I usually don't send emails like this, but I feel a sense of urgency. The year 2012 and the "end of the world" has captured the attention of many people now. Many are presently using and twisting Mayan prophecy to advance their own agenda. We haven't had the opportunity to hear from the real Maya yet regarding what is actually happening now. As many of you know, I have been producing a film called "Shift of the Ages" for the past five years with the Grand Elder of the Maya Nation. This is their film and effort to clear up popular misconceptions of the Maya's past and educated the public about what they believe is "the change of the sun." Much of what is being spread over the internet is false. I have done my best to walk in integrity with the Maya people and honor the information they believe is "the flame that will light the world." Proper project funding has been our biggest obstacle to date. The Mayan Elders involved in the project have seen the success of our collective effort, but at the 3D level I'd say we are about 75% done with our post-production process. We're open to partnering with a conscious and accomplished production company that is willing to honor our arrangement with the Maya nation and the direction of the project. Wow, it sounds very interesting, Patrick. I don't anticipate having any recreation time, to watch it, though, too busy with other exciting things.

You nailed it, re Groundhog Day. I've seen it several times and would discuss that with you anytime. It was reviwed in Community Film Picks Group here.

This is a movie with a very original scenario: it's a world where people only tell the truth. One guy suddenly manages to lie and it creates some changes.

But it's actually not totally correct to say that those people only lack the capacity to lie: what they utterly lack - and is not said in the movie - is the capacity to imagine things which are not real. They are litteral, so to say. So they live without fantasies and their world is factual and lacks passion.

That guy creates lies and he start playing with fantasies. But he also get depressed because people only have the capacity to take his fantasies as true. They are still in a 2 dimension reality. Basically he's the only one with that faculty and it's not much fun for him.

There's some nice scenes and it touches the subject of religion.

This movie, one could say a philosophical comedy with a romantic twist, can be read at multiple levels.

They could have made more of it, but I'd say it's already a lot for a hollywood movie.

I'm not passionate about it, but it's a nice watch and there's certain part that make you think.

I personnaly think the best "undercover" spiritual movie was Groundhog Day. So this one is definitely not a match. But nonetheless fun to watch.

Would be interested in discussing certain aspects of it.

Yeah, and there is at least equal corruption in every economic system. It's the people, not the system. I am 100% for exposing corruption !!!!!!! And I appreciate anyone's passion for doing so. But I believe in doing it responsibly, with accuracy. Otherwise, one's credibility gets damaged, and one is sabotaging one's own cause !

Some of the reviewers wouldn't agree with you about the absence/presence of inaccuracies in his work.... Or so it seemed to me.

I do see the point of view of being informed about what a popular opinion-maker says. I do see films sometimes just for that reason.

I didn't see Food, Inc. but I suspect that is a movie I could really get passionate about in a positive way, and I just hope it didn't shoot itself in the foot with too many inaccuracies.

Corruption, deception, and apathy. A deadly combination for a society, haha.

I will see it because I need to be informed on what he (MM) is saying. I've watched his other movies, and have not noticed any inaccuracies in what he is saying. Is there spin? Is there personal opinion? Yes.

I acknowledge that there are moral pejoratives that accompany certain terms. Socialism, capitalism, fascism, liberalism, conservatism. I'm also aware that as a society we are not as well informed as we should be.

I suspect that what motivates Mr. Moore in his crusade is the corruption that goes on inside the framework of capitalism. That is a matter of public record.

After reading the review clips on Rotten Tomatoes I concluded MM doesn't really have much integrity to the truth so I won't see this.

Especially as most people have no idea what capitalism is, and that it has never existed on earth, so can't be blamed for anything !!!! To me, capitalism is nothing but the principle of no use of force in the sphere of economic activity of humans. We're nowhere near that. So to even use the term shows a lack of integrity, a lack of knowledge.

But I know MM is popular, and a lot of folks will believe what he says.

Sigh.
