First off - you HAVE to love the heat - probably more important if you move to AZ than NM - although both states can get pretty dang hot esp in the southern regions… Secondly - there are very few trees in the deserts - but loads of trees up on the Mogollon rim - AZ’s “North Country” …I think NM has “sky islands” like Taos which have a lot of trees… Be careful of developers trying to sell you land in wash prone areas - washes are natural river beds that are mainly dry but which flood and run profusely when it rains… Write to both state’s chamnber of commerce’s and I’m sure they’d be happy to send you some sort of “relocation packet” - when you narrow it down to a few cities - do the same and they will also send out the packets. Thirdly - be prepared for culture shock - things ARE NOT the same out west as back East…. Funny - I’ve been thinking of moving to New Mexico for quite some time now….New Mexico is the state I fell in love with when I viisted the southwest many years ago (1989). |
