potential arizona wanna-be

my partner and i are looking to move west, southwest, that is, and are considering new mexico and arizona. we have been in new england the past 15 years and are gearign up for relocatign in teh next 3-5 years.  have been looking online at intentional communities and would love to come out and visit some and travel around.

if anyone is into providing some info on your hot state, i would be grateful!

are nurses and social workers/non-profit program directors in demand? are there enough natural swimming holes to help beat the heat? are there trees out yonder way in the desert?
why ar eyou in arizona rather than new mexico?

feel free to write me back here or in my zaadz inbox or my email: rives59@gmail.com

thanks!

First off - you HAVE to love the heat - probably more important if you move to AZ than NM - although both states can get pretty dang hot esp in the southern regions…

Secondly - there are very few trees in the deserts - but loads of trees up on the Mogollon rim - AZ’s “North Country” …I think NM has “sky islands” like Taos which have a lot of trees…

Be careful of developers trying to sell you land in wash prone areas - washes are natural river beds that are mainly dry but which flood and run profusely when it rains…

Write to both state’s chamnber of commerce’s and I’m sure they’d be happy to send you some sort of “relocation packet” - when you narrow it down to a few cities - do the same and they will also send out the packets.

Thirdly - be prepared for culture shock - things ARE NOT the same out west as back East….

Funny - I’ve been thinking of moving to New Mexico for quite some time now….New Mexico is the state I fell in love with when I viisted the southwest many years ago (1989).
